JAKARTA – The latest development in positive cases of COVID-19 as of April 12, 2021, there were an additional 4,829 confirmed positive cases, with 109,372 active cases, or the percentage was 6.9% compared to the world average of 17.4%. Recovery rate is 1,419,796 cases or has reached 90.3% compared to the world average of 80.7%. In cases of death, 42,656 cases or 2.7% compared to the world average of 2.2%

Official Spokesperson of The COVID-19 Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito asked to pay attention to the latest development. The trend is showing in an unfavorable direction. Regarding this development, he also reminded local governments to continue to improve the quality of accurate data reporting so that the handling of the pandemic in Indonesia can be more targeted.

“For this week, the Task Force regrets the increase in positive cases and deaths, as well as a decrease in recovery,” he said in the International Media Briefing at Graha BNPB, Tuesday (13/4/2021) broadcast on the YouTube channel of BNPB Indonesia.

Seeing the number of new cases this week, there was an increase of 6.3%. This increase was contributed by the 5 provinces with the highest increase in cases. Among them Banten rose 6,201 cases (1,562 vs 7,763), South Kalimantan rose 249 cases (1,503 vs 1,752), Riau rose 204 cases (892 vs 1,096), South Sulawesi rose 94 cases (364 vs 458) and Bengkulu rose 62 cases (109 vs 171 ).

Then the numbers of deaths this week rose by 0.9%. There were 5 provinces with the highest increase including Banten, which increased by 149 (5 vs 154), Central Java rose 31 (109 vs 140), East Java rise 13 (144 vs 157), Riau rose 9 (23 vs 32), and West Nusa Tenggara rose 5 (4 vs 9).

Although there was a decrease in recovery of 7.8% this week, Banten has experienced a quite high increase in cases of recovery, 379 cures. “Banten recorded an increase in positive cases and deaths this week, but recovery has also increased,” added Wiku.

Apart from Banten, there are 4 other provinces that have received appreciation for experiencing an increase in recovery. Among them, East Nusa Tenggara rose 268 (494 vs 1,004), DI Yogyakarta rose 254 (1,256 vs 1,500), Riau rose 230 (650 vs 840) and Papua rose 127 (93 vs 172).

Seeing the results of weekly developments, Wiku emphasized the Banten province which recorded an increase in COVID-19 cases, both positive, dead and recovered, which contributed significantly to the increase in positive cases and deaths nationally. This occurs because the process of recording and reporting data is still being synchronized between the central government and the regions.

“We hope that the synchronization of recording and reporting can run well so that existing data can be accurately used as a consideration for effective and targeted decision making,” Wiku said.
