JAKARTA – The holy month of Ramadhan 1442 Hijriah became the second time for Indonesia to face COVID-19 pandemics. Pandemic management among muslims who worship in the holy month, is a challenge in itself. On the other hand, the government must maintain an improving trend in handling developments.

Official Spokesperson of The COVID-19 Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito stated that this time the government is more prepared to face a pandemic in the month of Ramadan than the previous year. In which, the experience in the past year has become a lesson in preparing for this year.

“What distinguishes this year, the Indonesian government is relatively better prepared to face all the challenges that may arise during the holy month of Ramadan and also during the Idul Fitri 1442 Hijriah. This readiness is a lesson learned from previous experiences,” Wiku said in an International Media Briefing, Tuesday (13/4/2021), as broadcast by BNPB Indonesia’s YouTube channel.

Currently, the development of handling COVID-19 in Indonesia is improving. This can be seen from the progress of active cases continues to decline, confirmed positive cases and cases of death are getting under control, and the rate of recovery is increasing every day. “And government continues to maintain this positive trend,” added Wiku.

In order for COVID-19 pandemic to be more controlled during the fasting month and Eid, the Government through the Ministry of Religion supports the strengthening by issuing Circular No. 4 of 2021 as a guide for carrying out worship in the holy month of Ramadan and Eid celebrations. Another regulation issued by the government regarding Eid celebration, the Circular of the Head of the COVID-19 Task Force No. 13 of 2021 which eliminates the Eid homecoming which will be enforced on 6-17 May 2021.

“Unlike the previous year, this year the government strictly limits mobility. Given that positive cases often increase the impact of the long holiday. And this is a lesson from previous experiences,” concluded Wiku.
